Clyfford with a "Why"

Erica | 2013-03-08

On Friday March 15, at the Boettcher Concert Hall, see a fantastic collaboration between two of my favorite organizations- the Colorado Symphony and the Clyfford Still Museum.  "Projected images of Still’s work, provided by Denver’s Clyfford Still Museum, will be shown throughout the concert as we examine aesthetic influences and parallels to his paintings" -CSO.  Sounds like a great evening that will surely entertain all of your senses!

Clyfford Still Museum

Before the show, make sure to visit the Clyfford Still Museum over on Bannock Street, located right next to the Denver Art Museum.  The Clyfford Still Museum is a fabulous addition to our cultural community.  The museum's collection represents 94% of Still's art work, so this is not only a large collection, but also one of very few places in the world where you can view Still's work!  I also applaud the curators for showing such a complete breath of Still's work and the progression of his style throughout the exhibit.  You really get a sense of Still as a person and what inspired him.

In addition to the beautiful abstract expressionist paintings, the architecture of the Clyfford Still Museum is itself noteworthy.  The museum, made primarily of cement, utilizes unique textures to create interest and patterns that blend so well with the paintings.  I also enjoy the use of natural light throughout the museum, it really creates an excellent ambiance.
