Denver Museum of Nature and Science Celebrates Earth Day

SCFD | 2013-04-15

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is holding a SCFD Community Free Day Sunday, April 21 in celebration of Earth Day. The day includes many exciting activities for all ages including an anniversary celebration of the snarling Saber Tooth Cat, which has been a museum fixture for startling and amusing patrons for over 40 years! Following the celebration, a Q&A session will take place regarding the cat and what it has “seen” over the years. Other highlights include free shows at the Gates Planetarium and a Zoology Touch and See table for aspiring natural scientists.

For those, like me, who are interested in the construction on the South Side of the Museum, the 126,000 sq. ft. expansion is proceeding as scheduled.  Visit DMNS's website to see a time lapse video of the progress.  Just announced last week- the new wing’s three above-ground levels have been named the Morgridge Family Exploration Center.  The three above ground levels will include a Discovery Zone, an interactive floor of scienfic experimentation for the youngsters and the Anschutz Gallery.  The Anschutz Gallery will host major traveling shows, the first planned for the space is Maya: Hiddens Worlds Revealed, set for February 2014.  The new wing was designed by a local architechtural firm and will boasts Platinum LEEDS certification.  Visit the DMNS's website to learn more about the design and innovative buidling materials used to create this energy efficient space. Can't wait to step foot in the space when its complete!
