Explore the Outdoors at the Bluff Lake Nature Center

Bluff Lake Nature Center is the largest wildlife refuge in Denver, offering four distinct habitats on 123 acres: grasslands, wetlands, forest, and the lake. The area has a diversity of wildlife that is rarely found so close to urban areas of Colorado. Visitors can walk and jog on trails while experiencing the peace and quiet of a nature refuge. There are many wild animal and bird species that live at the site. Bluff Lake offers Bird Walks on the first Saturday of every month year round from 8 AM - 10 AM so that visitors can learn about the animals that live there.

Bluff Lake Nature Center also offers summer camps for kids that get them outside and connected with nature! These camps offer different activities, including learning outdoors skills such as tracking, way-finding, and map-making. You can learn more about their camps by visiting their website.

History of the organization: after the nearby Stapleton Airport closed in 1994, Bluff Lake Natural Area was established and protected. Denver agreed to preserve the Bluff Lake area and invest over three million dollars to enhance wildlife habitat, restore the banks of Sand Creek, build an interpretive trail system and construct open-air shelters.
