How to Apply For Funding

All organizations that receive SCFD funding must first be granted eligibility by submitting an Eligibility Application. This process ensures that all organizations meet statatory criteria, as outlined in the SCFD statute.

Changes to Statutory Eligibility Requirements Effective with 2017 Eligibility Applications

(i.e. any eligibility application received after the September 9, 2016 deadline)

1.  Primary Purpose 
Primary Purpose for funded organizations will be expanded. Starting in 2017, an organization must have a primary purpose "for enlightening and entertaining the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement or preservation of visual arts, performing arts, cultural history, natural history, or natural sciences."

2. Tax Status Requirements

  • Tier II: IRS Letter of Determination certifying 501(c)(3) must have been issued or re-issued within the last five years and the effective date of exemption must be at least seven years prior to date of eligibility application submission. Please note that years an organization spends under fiscal sponsorship of another organization do not count toward this requirement.
  • Tier III: IRS Letter of Determination certifying 501(c)(3) must have been issued or re-issued within the last five years and the effective date of exemption must be at least five years prior to date of eligibility application submission. Please note that years an organization spends under fiscal sponsorship of another organization do not count toward this requirement.

3. Tier II Regional Service Requirements 
In addition to current requirements, an organization seeking Tier II status "shall demonstrate its regional service and impact according to criteria established by the Board." Regional service requirements will be defined in board policy by the end of 2016.
