Archaeology Research Assistant (Term)

Position Status: Full time
Pay Range: $16.39 – $20.07/hour
Close Date: 3/23/20

This is a term position ending on 12/31/20.

 

Job Description:

 

This position will work in coordination with the curators and collection managers in the Anthropology Department to support research and lab work objectives pertaining to various projects.

 

These projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Research, cataloging and supervising volunteers and interns with archaeological collection processing and documentation.
  • Assisting with archaeological fieldwork projects.
  • Helping with the final reorganizing of the archaeology collection.

 

​ Essential duties:

 

  • Carry out research and lab work on varying archaeological projects in the Anthropology Department according to instruction from the curators
  • Enters all data and information into relevant database(s).
  • Manages the laboratory for all incoming artifacts from fieldwork.
  • Prepares and oversees the work of volunteers and interns—specifically the 2020 Teen Science Scholars.
  • Helps with final reorganization of the archaeological collection.
  • Assists with another collection (WS Ranch) acquisition and research as needed.

 

Minimum qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or related field required, working towards in a Master’s degree required.
  • Occasional local travel and out of state travel may be required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required.

 

Ideal candidate will have:

 

  • Database skills and knowledge of Emu.
  • Previous work with anthropology collections.
  • Fieldwork experience.
