Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) is searching for a qualified candidate for the part-time, contracted position of Contemporary Classroom Educator.

Contemporary Classroom is one of BMoCA’s outreach education program that brings contemporary art and the museum’s exhibitions directly to students in their classrooms. Through Contemporary Classroom, Museum Educators deliver enriching art education experiences to K–12th graders around the 7-county Denver/Boulder metro area. With the support of the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funding, Contemporary Classroom is offered for free in public schools and libraries in Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson counties. The program is also offered in Boulder County and other schools throughout the region for a discounted fee.

Contemporary Classroom programs consist of two parts (usually scheduled on separate days):

1) The Contemporary Classroom Educator engages the class in an interactive discussion using a provided slideshow about BMoCA’s exhibitions and the featured artists. 2) The Contemporary Classroom Educator presents an age-appropriate art-making activity that relates to the artwork on view at the museum.

The Contemporary Classroom Educator will be responsible for:
– Creating high quality art projects;
– Collecting and preparing art materials;
– Arriving at all assigned locations on time and prepared;
– Delivering a high-quality program; and
– Collecting and reporting accurate attendance numbers and documentation;

This position reports to the Outreach Education Manager.

BMoCA is searching for a well-qualified candidate with experience in art education and specific interest, experience and enthusiasm for working with students in K–12th-grades.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Planning, developing, and teaching high-quality Contemporary Classroom programs in schools as assigned;
  • Creating supply lists for art activities and staying on budget;
  • Maintaining accurate attendance data for each program;
  • Informally documenting program sessions;
  • Staying in regular communication with BMOCA Staff;
  • Acting as an ambassador for BMoCA;
  • Performing tasks and errands related to the program as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in art education (direct experience working with K–12 students required)
  • Classroom management experience
  • Experience developing arts-related curriculum
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to arrive on time to assigned locations
  • High level of professionalism

Hours & Schedule:
This position will primarily be serving schools (and possibly libraries) throughout Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson counties. The schedule will be created throughout the year, and the Educator will be given specific dates and locations as they are scheduled.

Compensation & Benefits:
This position will be on a contract basis and paid $60-75 per workshop commensurate with experience. The Contemporary Classroom Educator will also enjoy the benefit of free admission to BMoCA and its programming. Health insurance and paid vacation are not included with this position.
