Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Some Time Assistant Exhibits Technician in our Exhibits Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:

This position assists with preparation, fabrication, installation, and de-installation of indoor and outdoor art exhibitions. It builds mounts and displays for a variety of artworks and assists with other aspects of physical display and exhibit preparation, with keen attention to detail and quality of execution. The role support exhibitions activities within a fast-paced, multi-priority creative environment as part of a team that strives for perfection in all aspects of exhibitions.


General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pack, crate, uncrate and facilitate physical transportation of artworks and related materials.
  • Work alongside staff, volunteers, and contractors to install and de-install artwork and other exhibition components both indoors in a museum gallery environment, and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Measure artworks and planned placements to contribute to exhibition layout.
  • Fabricate and assist with fabrication of museum-quality custom mounts, pedestals, crates, temporary walls, and other displays and materials for use in exhibitions and related activities.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Exhibitions team to ensure that fabricated elements fully and precisely meet artwork and lender requirements, design and graphic needs, budget, and other parameters.
  • Handle and move artworks in a variety of media and with a variety of unique needs and requirements.
  • Support and assist with other physical aspects of exhibitions, including outdoor artwork siting assessments, lighting, and signage installation.
  • Assist with matting and framing artworks.
  • Support and assist with ongoing maintenance of exhibitions.
  • Support and contribute to exhibitions and interpretation departmental activities as needed.
  • Maintain satisfactory working relationships with managers, co-workers and others.
  • Maintain a positive, helpful and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving members and visitors.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite is required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with reading technical drawings and plans and using them to fabricate a product to spec; attention to detail critical.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools and take accurate measurements.
  • Understanding of fabrication materials including wood, metal, and plastics.
  • Ability to operate shop tools including table saws, miter saws, and band saws.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, lift materials up to 80 pounds, stoop, bend and kneel, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Experience with art handling and 3D design or modeling software desirable.
  • Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
  • Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.


  • High school diploma / GED; bachelor’s degree preferred. Current students in pursuit of art or art museum degree are encouraged to apply. Combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of carpentry or other fabrication experience is required.
  • Some experience in an art museum, public garden or other scientific/cultural environment is desirable but not required.
