AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications
Classification: Full-time, exempt
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm with early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed
Salary Range: $42,000 – $49,000 (Salary based on education and experience)
SUMMARY:
The Audience Development Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation and measurement of all Central City Opera Audience Development activities. Audience Development activities are defined as, but not limited to, events that cultivate new audiences and advocates, while also more deeply engaging existing patrons through programming that enriches their experiences and connections to Central City Opera. Central City Opera seeks someone who is passionate about opera, music and the performing arts and will be driven to unlock the arts potential to transform our community.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Lead the creation of audience development strategies and generate creative, strategically aligned programming to cultivate new audiences and enhance their experiences
- Support Marketing and Box Office efforts to reach ticket revenue goals
- Research, strategize, develop, execute, and measure new audience development plans and initiatives
- Ensure all audience development plans and initiatives have pre-defined measurable outcomes that contribute to and stem from a strategic audience development plan
- Make connections and build relationships with community partner organizations and individuals
- Represent Central City Opera at performances, Festival events, fundraising events, community events and other special events
- Attend departmental meetings and facilitate clear communication and aligned tactics across departments
- Work cross-functionally with the marketing, artistic, development, and education departments to determine how all audience development events or initiatives might intersect and benefit each group
- Research, recommend and assist in implementation of marketing and communication strategies to increase audience reach and engagement
- Work with Director of Marketing and Communications to plan and manage the audience development budget
- Develop and manage a survey strategy to effectively monitor and report on audience satisfaction
- Work with Marketing Content Manager to use social media strategically to enhance and support Audience Development initiatives
- Work with Box Office to identify and cultivate group sales prospects, re-engage lapsed attendees and develop loyalty and frequency among existing audiences
- Serve on the organization’s New Initiative Committee to develop performances outside of the Festival season in order to reach new audiences
- Develop and Manage Central City Opera’s Young Professionals initiative
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience required.
- 3-5 years of related experience preferred
- Knowledge of marketing, communications, vocal music, music, performing arts, or arts education preferred
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office products: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of ticketing systems (i.e. Tessitura, SRO) or similar CRM system is a plus

- An appreciation for and fluency in talking about opera, music and the performing arts

- Strong public speaking ability and engaging presentation skills

- Detail-oriented and able to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to function in a collaborative environment while also working independently
- Personable with exceptional oral and written communications skills
- High level of intercultural competence and experience working with diverse communities
- Ability to initiate and facilitate conversations with small and large groups of diverse stakeholders
- Takes independent actions and proactively seeks opportunities to connect resources, people and organizations with Central City Opera
