Job purpose  

The Audience Development Manager plans, creates, implements, and assesses strategic programs & initiatives that support the active, intentional, and ongoing engagement of communities that are underrepresented in our current audiences, to grow our audiences to reflect the diversity of our Denver metro community.

This highly collaborative position works in close partnership with many internal teams and external contacts.

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Develops and executes programs and strategies to welcome new audiences that reflect both best practices and a deep understanding of Denver Metro audiences and their motivations, gained through a combination of qualitative research, quantitative research, and personal interaction.
  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships throughout the organization to advance cross-functional initiatives including with the following departments: Education & Community Engagement; Equity and Organizational Culture; Produced Programming; Broadway Programming; Group Sales; Ticketing and Audience Services; Development; and others.
  • Ensures the integration of DCPA’s values in all Audience Development touchpoints, including Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Collaborates with the Executive Director of Equity and Organizational Culture in integrating those missions-based values into all aspects of the Marketing Department.
  • Establishes program-based, institutional, and seasonal programming and show-specific Audience Development goals for the DCPA, in consultation with relevant internal partners.
  • Creates programs and strategies to advance Audience Development goals, in collaboration with relevant internal partners. Responsible for key metrics and reports to assess the impact of those programs & strategies.
  • Develops, implements, manages, and markets patron, ticketing, and other access programs. Creates rubrics for assessment of those programs.
  • Develops proficiency around Denver demographic trends and their impact on the DCPA, as well as Denver cultural trends and their impact.
  • Collaborates with program marketers to create targeted marketing messaging for channels such as digital communications, direct mail, print distribution, and promotions.
  • Collaborates with the communications and content developers to generate content for DCPA media platforms that is relevant to target audiences.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service in all outward-facing communications and relationships.
  • Supports the mission and values of the DCPA by modeling and encouraging behaviors that exemplify respect, engaging in the diversification of our team, maintaining a safe and supportive working environment, and demonstrating a degree of cultural competency that enhances relationships within the organization and community.
  • The metrics of success for this position include the execution of initiatives that successfully grow attendance and ticket sales from identified target audiences.

Qualifications 

  • 3-5 years of audience development or related experience (marketing, community engagement, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Passion for theatre and the arts
  • Excellent interpersonal, critical thinking, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to working in dynamic and evolving teams. A positive, collaborative attitude is crucial
  • Ability to adapt to change and new opportunities
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and also has a strong sense of teamwork
  • Big thinker with creative ideas
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously and function at a high level of productivity in a fast-paced, high energy environment
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • This position requires working occasional nights and weekends
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds

Working conditions 

This position operates in a hybrid office environment in which select days may be remote.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position requires working occasional nights and weekends
