Position Summary
Reporting to the Dance Coordinator, this hourly position teaches beginning through advanced ballet and pointe classes using a syllabus. This instructor will choreograph for the spring concerts and may have the opportunity to choreograph on the performing company.
Responsibilities
- Choreograph class dances for the spring recitals
- Arrive prior to class time
- Attend and participate in all required meetings
- Open Communication with Dance Coordinator on ongoing basis
- Submit required concert information to the Dance Coordinator; including program notes, music and prop and set needs, in timely manner
- Other reasonable duties as assigned
Skills and Competencies
- Experience educating young children, adolescents and/or adults with a strong emphasis on injury prevention
- Ability to present material in a developmentally appropriate manner
- Ability to teach the material on the syllabus and give useful corrections on alignment and execution
- Ability to communicate positively with the students, parents and Arvada Center Staff
- Ability to collaborate and work with fellow dance instructors on show themes
- Ability to demonstrate or explain combinations and correct students, move ballet barres as needed
- Move light sets and props during recital season
- Ability to stand for two hours, either in class or while working backstage for dance concerts
- Must possess several years teaching experience, have a solid foundation of ballet training
- Applicants should be reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic about teaching dance to children, teens and/or adults
- Basic knowledge of kinesiology
- A background check is required
Compensation
This is a part time, nonexempt position earning $20- $28 per hour and is eligible for paid sick leave.
