Bilingual Adjunct Museum Educator

The Clyfford Still Museum’s Learning and Engagement department is seeking passionate and enthusiastic bilingual adjunct museum educators to deliver the Museum’s programs for students and families. Museum educators, through their love of learning and inclusive teaching, sustain CSM’s innovative programs and contribute significantly to the Museum’s relationships with the community. The role of the bilingual educator is to facilitate CSM programs in English, Spanish, or in a bilingual format. Due to the on-call nature of this position, the ideal candidate is looking for a position that would support their professional development in museum education or seeking to supplement other work. Our adjunct museum educator team includes a diverse range of professionals including practicing artists, university students, retired classroom or museum educators, and caregivers.

Primary Duties*:

Spanish Bilingual:

  • Facilitate standard offerings (inStill School Experiences, family programs) in English and in Spanish
  • Collaborate with the team on the development of new program offerings/advise on strategies for program facilitation.
  • Review and approval of Spanish-translated text or ASL-interpretive materials as needed.

Program Facilitation:

  • Co-teach inStill Gallery Experiences at the Museum, in-school experiences, and virtual experiences for grades K-12 
  • Co-teach family programs and programs for early learners. 
  • Facilitate events and professional development programs with teachers. 
  • Support other Museum events and community-based programming.
  • Commitment to self-reflection. 
  • Ability to recognize and respond to children’s ever-changing interests and needs.
  • Empathy for children’s unique and diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. 

Training Participation: 

  • Work with Assistant Director, School & Teacher Programs to observe and learn from ongoing programs. Complete assigned readings, videos, and reflections to build skills and gain comfort with facilitation. 
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions with CSM staff and other experts to build teaching skills and comfort in a variety of relevant topics including but not limited to art, equity, and accessibility.


  • Co-teach with a team of museum educators to provide optimal experiences for all students, teachers, and families. 
  • Collaborate with the Director of Learning and Engagement and the Assistant Director of School & Teacher Programs about scheduling, training, and feedback. 
  • Reflect upon teaching practices and lessons with other museum educators and learning and engagement department staff regularly. 
  • Collaborate with other CSM department teams to implement programs.

Work hours and duration:

  • The position is part-time, and on-call. Hours may vary from 0-15 each week depending on program requests, with an average of 5-12 hours per week. 
  • Daytime availability during school hours is required.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends are required.
  • A flexible schedule is needed to accommodate various groups’ schedules and different types of offerings.
  • Facilitation time will include time to prepare, conduct, and wrap up the visits.
  • Most school visits occur during the school year, however summer availability is required for family programs and other group visits. 



Skills & Experience:

  • Applicants should have proficiency in speaking in Spanish (knowledge of technical art language not required). The ability to read and edit written Spanish is a plus.
  • Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or have equivalent teaching experience.
  • Applicants should have a passion for teaching and comfort with groups of children of all ages. Experience working with children from birth through age 8 is a plus.
  • Applicants should be reliable, creative, flexible, reflective, organized, and enthusiastic about inclusivity.
  • Applicants should be able to work independently as well as with a team of teachers. 
  • Applicants must have experience or interest in learning about platforms we use (primarily, Zoom and Google Meet) to facilitate virtual programs.
  • Applicants must pass a background check.
  • Applicants must present proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before the commencement of employment or receive an approved exemption.

Availability questions:

  1. Are there times or days during the week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. that you are not available? When?
  2. Are you available for occasional nights and weekends?
  3. Educators are scheduled based on requests, and adjunct educators can expect to work 15 or fewer hours per week, sometimes as few as zero hours. Does this meet your expectations? 
  4. How much advance notice of scheduling requests would you need to ensure your availability for teaching sessions?
  5. This work is complex, and our training is in-depth. Because of that, we aim to keep educators on staff for at least two years. For how long would you expect to remain a museum educator? 
  6. What are your short-term (3-5 years) career goals?
