We are looking for a detail and process oriented financially minded individual who has a passion for the outdoors and for helping to provide access to the outdoors. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the financial team and will create and implement effective policies and procedures to ensure the financial stability of the CMC for years to come.
In addition to directly overseeing the accounting team, this role will also be responsible for various operations tasks such as insurance renewals, identifying and pursuing improvements to benefit offerings and will oversee the website and database functions and team.
This role will require some evenings, weekends, and likely some travel across the state of Colorado. We believe it is important to balance work life and personal space in order maintain a fresh, creative, and engaged team. We encourage and support flexible hours to achieve this result.
This team member must be well-organized, detail oriented and able to manage through ambiguous situations effectively. This person will be the main contact for all things finance, reporting, and database driven for the organization. Communication skills, attention to detail, ability to analyze large sets of data, and an authentic enthusiasm for the CMC’s mission are critical and the primary path to success. We believe in living the mission of the CMC so, a passion for outdoor recreation and some area of mountain-craft are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Accounting and Finance:
o Oversee the accounting and Finance team and all functions
o Provide professional development opportunities for the team
o Implement effective processes and procedures to ensure compliance with various requirements and ensure the financial stability of the organization for years to come
o Ensure useful and timely reports are provided to the leadership team including department heads, group leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors
o Coordinate and manage the annual audit as well as gather financial information for various external reports such as the annual report, grant reporting and applications, etc.
o Ensure timely renewals of all insurance policies as well as work to obtain the best coverage possible
o Work with our broker to shop for and renew the health, dental, and other employment benefits
o Support the team by providing contract review and identifying when legal counsel and other experts should be brought in to provide guidance and advice
• IT and Database Management:
o Work with external contractors to manage the all Information Technology platforms and ensure they are secure, functioning appropriately, and continuing to improve operations of the CMC
o Support staff by being the liaison between the CMC and support contractors to resolve issues and implement fixes and enhancements
Especially important given the launch of the new website in August 2022
o Eventually this role will have an IT Manager as a direct report
• CPA with non-profit accounting experience preferred
• Proficient in MS Office, Databases (specifically Sales Force), and QuickBooks
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
The CMC will offer the successful candidate a competitive compensation and benefits package, comparable to a nonprofit our size. Salary range for this position is: $70,000-$75,000 annually.
