Denver Zoo’s Field Conservation department has an opportunity for a full time Citizen Science Project Specialist to implement programs designed to engage local communities in science-based conservation research and restoration of important wildlife and ecosystems along the interface of the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains in the Southern Rocky Mountains. As part of Denver Zoo’s Rocky Mountains/Great Plains Field Conservation Program team, the Specialist will support the development, implementation and evaluation of several citizen science projects across the region. Our primary citizen science projects focus on the impacts of climate change on the American pika, wildlife monitoring in support of proposed mitigation structures along I-70 on Vail Pass, and understanding the ecological restoration effects of restored bison herds. Hiking at altitude (up to 6 hours for longer hikes) on variable terrain while carrying heavy field equipment is required of this position. The Citizen Science Project Specialist will be responsible for citizen science volunteer recruitment, coordination, training, and engagement; apply ecological expertise to conduct field research, data management, and analysis; assist with writing reports, proposals, and marketing materials; promote and maintain collaboration among project partners and stakeholders; and streamline efficiency and efficacy of these projects. This position is based at Denver Zoo.
