The Position

We are looking for a skillful and experienced individual to support the long-term health of the museum by ensuring the physical facility is optimized to efficiently showcase art, warmly and safely welcome visitors, and can continue to elevate Denver’s expanding art scene.  The Facilities & Building Operations Manager oversees the maintenance and improvement of a 27,000 square foot Gold LEED certified museum.  This position is full-time including benefits and is based out of our downtown Denver museum location.

About You

  • You have a minimum 5 years’ experience in facilities management.
  • Ideally, you also have experience with public museum or library facilities.
  • You have excellent organizational and, on the spot, problem-solving skills, you can communicate with a variety of audiences and you like supporting and engaging with all members of museum staff.
  • You are knowledgeable about HVAC systems, can read and understand building and mechanical plans and have the ability to perform minor maintenance repairs.
  • You like to work a flexible schedule and are available on occasional nights and weekends to perform scheduled or emergency duties, as needed.

A Day in the Life

Facility

  • Monitor, inspect, maintain, and manage the repair of building life services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, janitorial, fire and building security systems to ensure optimal operating results.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain the building’s temperature and humidity levels consistent with acceptable environmental standards for an art museum.
  • Assist with set-ups and teardowns for lectures, performances, and special events.
  • Maintain and organize the Museum’s offsite storage area.
  • Develop and manage facility-related operating procedures and policies.

Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and security protocols and develop contingency plans, as necessary.
  • Participate with local and state officials to comply with applicable regulations and maintain required facility licenses/certificates.
  • Support the museum’s COVID-19 safety standards and protocols.
  • Manage facility access procedures.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, including alarm and fire systems.
  • Perform daily a walkthrough of the facility to determine potential safety issues.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with the Deputy Director on the implementation of new building projects.
  • Coordinate with facility vendors to ensure all systems are functioning optimally.
  • Coordinate with artists and insurance vendors.
  • Oversee contract janitorial, security system, and guard services.
  • Attend staff meetings and report as needed on facility-related issues.
  • Conduct training for staff members on facility-related topics.
  • Assist with facility requirements for the Annual Gala.

Financial

  • Create, manage, and adhere to the annual facility budget.

What You Bring to Us

  1. Technical degree preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  2. Requires minimum of 5 years’ experience in hands-on facilities management.  Experience with museum or library facilities is strongly preferred.
  3. Current facilities-related licenses strongly preferred.
  4. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  5. Technical ability to perform minor maintenance repairs and upkeep throughout the building.
  6. The desire to work with a dynamic, diverse and collaborative team, usually during regular work week hours with occasional weekend and night availability to support our epic events and building related emergencies.

Our History

MCA Denver was founded in 1996 by philanthropist Sue Cannon and a group of committed volunteers and artists who responded to the community’s need for a contemporary art museum in Denver. In 2007, we opened our new, 27,000-square foot, environmentally sustainable facility in the Riverfront neighborhood of lodo Denver. Our building has five galleries on two floors as well as dedicated education spaces, a gift shop, an innovative art lending library, and a rooftop bar and café.

Physical Requirements

  • You need to be able to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day. You will frequently need to reach for, move and/or lift up to 75 pounds and use your hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, mobility to access a wide variety of meeting and museum settings, and to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting, occasionally climbing stairs or using an elevator, possibly reaching chest high and overhead for materials, with reasonable accommodation.

Compensation: This is an exempt, salary position. The annual salary range is $60,000 - $66,000 commensurate with experience.
