Job Summary: Working closely with curatorial staff and colleagues in the Exhibitions, Art & Learning Engagement Department, manage implementation of exhibitions, including scheduling, transportation, and preparation for multiple indoor and outdoor exhibitions each year, including outgoing traveling exhibits program. Responsible for the management and supervision of assigned staff dedicated to exhibitions and collections.

Compensation: $1600.00 -$1640.00 biweekly (annualized $41,600.00 – $42,640.00)

Qualifications/ Experience: Two years related experience in a museum or gallery setting where technical duties included art handling, maintenance, and art storage. Bachelor’s degree or higher from four-year college or university with concentration in art, art history, museum studies, or related field—or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication skills essential. Knowledge related to collections and collections databases collections preferred. Superior project management skills critical. Creative problem solving a must. Experience supervising staff preferred. Bilingual speakers (English-Spanish) desired.

Essential Job Duties:

Exhibitions:

  • Project management for all exhibitions, including staff resource allocation, communication with art handlers, acting as primary contact for borrowing institutions, and overseeing site management.
  • Oversee framing and fabrication of exhibition elements, including engineering, concrete work, and oversight of adherence to aesthetic standards, ADA, security and safety standards. Liaise with colleagues accordingly.
  • Create multi-year exhibition schedules to coordinate installation and deinstallation transitions, coordinating with colleagues across the institution on timing and logistics.Coordinate transit logistics for all exhibitions, including any necessary crating and un-crating, shipping, and insurance.
  • Act as key lead in physical installation and deinstallation of artworks both outdoors and indoors.
  • Manage maintenance of galleries and outdoor exhibitions, including upkeeping gallery standards in all respects, and working with other departments on security, housekeeping, and maintenance.

Collections and Registration

  • Oversee art collections activities, including implementation of best practices for collection management, cataloging and inventory, rehousing, insurance needs, environmental monitoring, and collections policies.
  • Supervise art collections disaster planning activities.
  • Oversee exhibition registration activities, including registration and condition checking of incoming and outgoing loans, photo documentation, and insurance needs.
  • Manage condition checks and daily maintenance of all exhibition objects, both indoors and out.

Other Job Duties:

  • Support and foster an inclusive work culture and professional environment, supporting institutional aims within diversity, equity, accessibility an inclusion.
  • Creation of project management workflows for exhibitions to facilitate increased efficiency and capacity. Support exhibit-related public events, including staffing.
  • Represent the entire Exhibitions department and the Gardens to key constituents and funders as need, including assistance giving tours, presentations, or other ways to engage community.
  • Work with artists, estates, museums and other cultural partners to implement exhibitions and related programs
  • Maintain satisfactory working relationships with managers, co-workers and others.
  • Maintain a positive, helpful and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving members and visitors.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
