Through our flagship property the Molly Brown House Museum, technical assistance, project management, and public programs, Historic Denver engages with and tells the stories of generations of Denverites. The thoughtful and inclusive preservation of culturally significant places ensures that we all have a deeper understanding of our society and how it came to be. 


Position Purpose 

As a public-facing representative, the Visitor Experience Specialist’s role is to engage with audiences at the museum. Front-line visitor experience responsibilities include assisting guests with admission, museum information, and purchases. Visitor engagement activities encompass interacting with guests in the museum, supporting the museum’s K-12 and adult education programs and tours, and supporting special events and programs conducted at the Museum and virtually. This position is intended for those wanting to gain museum experience or who enjoy working with the public in a historic setting.  


Key Responsibilities 

    • Conduct tours of the Museum and present demonstrations and other activities for children, families, adults, and special needs groups. 
    • Museum Store cashiering, stocking, tidying, and merchandising. 
    • Provide communications support by routinely posting and responding to the museum’s social media channels. 
    • Maintain current knowledge of all programming, events, and exhibits. Support these activities as assigned.  
    • Assist with such museum care activities as light, humidity, and insect monitoring, collections cleaning, and other duties as assigned.

Additionally, we seek candidates that: 

    • Communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms and speak effectively before groups. Fluent English proficiency, writing and speaking skills required, with priority given to those bi-lingual in Spanish. 
    • Have a flexible schedule and be dependable with access to reliable transportation. 
    • Work effectively and accurately in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent customer service. Cash handling, cash register, and point of sale experience are preferred. 
    • Adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and deal with change, delays, or unexpected events. 
    • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team, as a well as lead and supervise the work of others. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department and across departments. 

Requirements include the physical capability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, lift 30 pounds, and function in high-energy environment throughout the day. Public Health policy may require the ability to wear a properly fitted face mask for up to 8 hours / day. Depending on local, state, and institutional requirements of partners, such as school districts, employees should be prepared to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to perform essential job functions.  


Compensation and Benefits  

The VES position is a non-exempt, part-time position and will include weekday and weekend day shifts. This position is required to work in-person 3-4 days per week at our multi-story Molly Brown House Museum located at 1340 Pennsylvania Street. The rate of pay is $18 – 20.00 /hour commensurate with experience and language skills.
