Colorado Ballet Company is a Denver-based nonprofit organization celebrating over 60 years of excellence. Its mission is to present exceptional classical ballet and contemporary dance through performances, training, education and community engagement while inspiring and growing an increasingly diverse audience base. Under the direction of the Artistic Director, Gil Boggs, Colorado Ballet presents more than 50 performances annually to sold-out audiences in the 2,080-seat Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

The Raydean Acevedo Colorado Ballet Academy serves over 1,200 students each year, from toddlers to seniors. Colorado Ballet’s Education and Community Engagement programming engages with students, teachers, families, people with disabilities, and lifelong learners, making more than 35,000 contacts in 300 schools and organizations annually.

Position Overview

The Director of Marketing and Communications is a strategic and creative leader responsible for promoting Colorado Ballet’s performances, programs, and brand while ensuring a high-quality patron experience. This position oversees the Marketing and Patron Services teams, working across departments to increase earned revenue, build audience engagement, and support the organization’s mission. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director plays a key role in shaping Colorado Ballet’s public presence and ensuring consistency of messaging and service at all patron touchpoints.

Key Duties and Functions

  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing, communications, and patron services strategies to support sales, engagement, and brand alignment, focusing on building audiences.
  • Supervise and support a cross-functional team including the Marketing Manager, Communications Manager, Videographer/Photographer, Visual Designer, and Patron Services Manager.
  • Develop and lead the seasonal marketing plan across advertising, media relations, social media, email, and digital platforms; develop and manage program-specific campaigns and report on performance analytics.
  • Oversee Patron Services through direct supervision of the Patron Services Manager – partner with Patron Services Manager to implement best-in-class customer service and experiences.
  • In partnership with Artistic, Advancement, Academy, and Education Departments, develop and present new, creative messaging and communications for organizational initiatives.
  • Manage external vendors, designers, consultants, and media partners; ensure brand consistency across all materials.
  • Create and oversee departmental budgets, revenue forecasts, and performance reports.
  • Serve as the primary press contact and lead media relations efforts to secure visibility and coverage for Colorado Ballet.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in all marketing and customer engagement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in progressively responsible marketing and/or communications, including time in supervisory or departmental leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams, including customer service or front-of-house functions.
  • Proven success in developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns that drive ticket sales or program participation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with digital marketing platforms and analytics tools, as well as experience with CRM/ticketing systems (e.g., Tessitura) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced performing arts environment.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, email marketing platforms, and content management systems preferred.
  • Strong commitment to high-quality customer service and experience design.
  • Required to attend most Colorado Ballet evening and weekend performances.

Salary Range: $100,000 – $125,000
