SOCIAL MEDIA & MARKETING COORDINATOR job description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Social Media and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for developing and executing WOW!’s social media strategy while providing regular support for broader marketing and communications initiatives. This important and creative role is responsible for helping to attract and retain young families, members, donors, educators, community partners and other key stakeholders. Primary duties include creating and managing content across WOW!’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok) to strengthen brand awareness, engage audiences, and build community. Content creation includes regularly taking and editing pictures and videos, interviewing visitors and staff, attending team meetings and WOW! programs and events, and then converting raw footage and content knowledge into succinct and trendy social media posts. The position also supports the promotion of programs, events, campaigns, and organizational priorities through coordinated marketing efforts and designing compelling digital and print communications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and Content Creation
- Work with the Marketing Manager to develop, implement, and manage WOW!’s social media strategy across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and other relevant platforms.
- Build out and execute a content calendar
- Create, schedule, and publish engaging digital content that reflects WOW!’s mission, programs, events, and organizational priorities.
- Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages as appropriate, and foster meaningful community engagement.
- Support the promotion of museum programs, special events, fundraising campaigns, and other initiatives through coordinated marketing efforts.
- Assist in the development of marketing materials, digital communications, and promotional content for print and online use.
- Collaborate with staff across departments to gather stories, photos, videos, and program updates for use in social media and marketing campaigns.
- Help maintain brand consistency across social media, email, website, and other public-facing communications.
- Track social media and marketing performance metrics and provide insights to support ongoing strategy and audience growth.
- Stay informed on social media trends, platform updates, and best practices to strengthen WOW!’s digital presence.
- Support additional communications and marketing projects as assigned.
- Participate in Interdepartmental Collaboration and Training
- Attend weekly staff and interdepartmental meetings
- Keep up to date on Museum policies, standards, and specific brand language
- Assist in additional tasks as assigned by supervisor or other members of the leadership team
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn)
- Ability to write brief, engaging posts or captions in established brand voice
- Understanding of social media trends and conventions
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of and passion for museums and/or early childhood education preferred
- Spanish-language skills preferred
- Comfort with engaging with children, adults, and community members, utilizing excellent interpersonal skills
FLSA Status: Not-Exempt
Job Status: Part-time
Grade/Level: Experienced
Reports to: Marketing & Communications Manager
Work Schedule: Flexible. Approximately 15-20 hours/week. Some evenings and weekends are required.
Amount of Travel Required: Minimal
Benefits Eligibility: not eligible, except for sick time as per Colorado law

Pay Range: $20-25/hour
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in building socials audience in both personal and professional settings
- Experience using Canva for visual design is preferred
- Experience with developing and implementing social media strategy
- Experience in designing print flyers is preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly required to stand, sit, walk; talk, and to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds.
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, grasp, or feel.
- Regularly required to use devices such as a computer, mobile phone, tablet, and be able to read small print.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 20 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets
- Subject primarily to indoor conditions
- Occasionally subject to a loud and busy environment
Compensation: $20 - $25/hour
