Denver Zoo’s Animal department has an opportunity for a Student Zookeeper Apprentice to provide the safe exhibition, handling, feeding, and husbandry of animal species at the Zoo. This is a two-year on the job-training program intended to provide individuals in the Denver metropolitan area an opportunity to explore careers in the animal care field. The student will rotate throughout all Animal Care work sections to develop skills at the zookeeper level in the exhibition, care and husbandry of a wide variety of animals. The minimal workweek for each apprentice will be sixteen (16) hours consisting of two full eight (8) hour days per week (including working weekends) and can increase to 40 hours a week dependent on school schedule and budget. Candidates must be currently working towards a college degree in animal-related field are encouraged to apply, have a valid driver’s license and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
