Culture for ALL

Here at SCFD, we believe in Culture for ALL.

As part of our continued efforts to promote equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA) into our work, we’ve partnered with The Equity Project to develop the following cultural equity statement:

SCFD connects people to arts, culture, and scientific experiences in their communities by providing meaningful opportunities no matter who they are or where they live:

  • By leveraging its funding resources to support a diverse and growing array of organizations,
  • Supporting organizations that create an environment where all are welcomed and included,
  • By continuing to understand inequities and barriers to access while actively working to remove them.

We know that actions speak louder than words. That’s why we are working hard to make sure our board and staff leadership reflects the diverse cultural community we represent. And, that our processes reflect the equity we hope to achieve in funding our partners across the metro area. To that end we:

  • Updated our annual granting applications and reports to incorporate our cultural equity statement.
  • Conducted 20+ EDIA trainings for staff and County Cultural Councils and will continue looking for opportunities to strengthen understanding.
  • Are creating universal County Cultural Council scoring criteria for grantmaking.
  • Will conduct monthly accessibility audits and updates of our website. See our accessibility statement for more information.
  • Will uphold our nondiscrimination and cultural equity statements by requiring that all Board, staff and County Cultural Council members make a commitment to both each year.
