Its mission is to present exceptional classical ballet and contemporary dance through performances, training, education and community engagement while inspiring and growing an increasingly diverse audience base. Under the direction of the Artistic Director, Gil Boggs, Colorado Ballet presents more than 50 performances annually to sold-out audiences in the 2,080-seat Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

The Raydean Acevedo Colorado Ballet Academy serves over 1,200 students each year, from toddlers to seniors. Colorado Ballet’s Education and Community Engagement programming engages with students, teachers, families, people with disabilities, and lifelong learners, making more than 35,000 contacts in 300 schools and organizations annually.

Position Overview

Colorado Ballet is looking for an individual to join the Production Department at the Colorado Ballet Armstrong Center for Dance. This position supports the production requirements of the Education and Community Engagement Department, the studio needs of the professional company, and the performance needs of the Colorado Ballet Academy. This position also supports the Armstrong Center for Dance facility’s needs. Those needs include scheduling maintenance, ensuring permits are current, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. This position requires someone energetic, creative, and good at self-management and multitasking.

Key Duties and Functions

Facilities

  • Schedule regular building maintenance including cleaning, fire alarm checks, elevator permitting and grounds.
  • Daily oversight and troubleshooting of building’s appearance and function. This could include booking graffiti removal, calling vendors regarding plumbing issues, and more.
  • Process invoices for Facilities related work and maintain clear communication with vendors regarding services and payments.

Production

  • Look after all technical elements and performances in the ACD Black Box theatre, including lighting and sound requirements for academy performances, other departmental events, and outside hires, as well as equipment maintenance. Manage the setup and strike of the Black Box theater.
  • Supports the Education and Community Engagement department for school performances. This includes booking and driving a truck to the venues, setting up performances including portable ballet barres, Marley dance floors, and pipe and drape. As well as running audio and lights. Occasionally, this requires overnight stays.
  • Look after technical requirements in ballet studios, ensuring sound and video equipment is in good working order and troubleshooting any issues, and scheduling piano tunings.
  • Maintain archival performance recordings, loading existing DVDs onto virtual platforms.
  • Complete requests from dancers or artistic staff for video or music requirements.
  • Supports professional company studio rehearsal needs.

 Qualifications

  • Strong theatre technical skills, including understanding stage lighting and sound equipment, and experience setting and running basic lighting designs.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a demanding environment.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and reliable transportation for work-related tasks.
  • Ability to drive a rental truck to and from performance venues and events, as needed.
  • Must be flexible to work some nights and weekends based on production and performance schedules.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40lbs, including technical equipment and materials, as required by the role.

Compensation: $42,000 - $45,000 annually
