Status & Classification:    Regular | Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Payrate:    $23 ~ $27/hour (depending on experience)

Work Schedule:    Tuesday ~ Saturday* | 8:30am ~ 5pm* | 40 hours/week
*This position must accommodate a flexible schedule as required for weekend events as well as occasional evenings and holidays.

Summary
The Manager of Family Programs plays a vital role in creating strategic, mission-based experiences for families and youth. In collaboration with the Public Programs Department, this position develops, implements, and evaluates family and youth-focused programming and events across both Wings Over the Rockies locations. This position is responsible for maintaining recurring events at Exploration of Flight including Breakfast Fly-ins and Showcase weekends. The Manager of Family Programs should have a strong understanding of informal learning in a Museum setting, a commitment to creative problem solving, and excellent customer services skills.  As a member of the Public Programs department, this position works closely with the Experiential Programs Manager, Deputy Director at Exploration of Flight, and other inter-departmental teams including Corporate Events, Visitor Services, Marketing, Education, etc. The Manager of Family Programs reports to the Director of Public Programs.

Organization
Founded in 1994 on the former Lowry Air Force Base in east Denver’s historic Lowry Field neighborhood, Wings Over the Rockies is a non-profit community organization dedicated to unlocking dreams of flight through exhibits, local events, and educational programming. We are Colorado’s official Air & Space Museum having been recognized by CNN Travel as one of their 20 Best aviation museums in the world. Each year we welcome over 160,000 visitors representing all 50 states and dozens of countries internationally. Wings is committed to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. The Museum boasts more than 100,000 sq. ft. of open hangar space full of iconic aircraft, space vehicles, historical artifacts, and more. Exploration of Flight (EoF) is our flight-focused educational extension. This 15-acre campus is located at the Centennial Airport where we offer showcase events with a variety of aircraft, aviation immersion programs, pilot ground training, and flight experiences. EoF is home to our Blue Sky Gallery exhibit and interactive aviation center featuring an airworthy fleet of civilian and military aircraft.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement dynamic, mission-based programs, workshops, and events that drive new audiences and revenue streams
  • Understand and become proficient in content relating to Wings Over the Rockies and its permanent collections in order to apply that knowledge to program development
  • Organize and recruit participants – pilots, speakers, aircraft owners, aviation enthusiasts, volunteers, and guests of honor – for Breakfast Fly-ins, weekend Showcases and Annual Events
  • Facilitate programs, including introducing speakers and presenting content
  • Ensure smooth execution of internal events by providing training and written instructions to staff and volunteers who carry out programmatic and event responsibilities
  • Act as floor manager during internal events, providing supervision, support, and feedback to staff, volunteers, and interns
  • Provide exceptional customer service while interacting with visitors and handle any complaints with empathy and professionalism
  • Evaluate and analyze participant feedback on programmatic experiences, consistently provide analysis of feedback to the Director of Public Programs, and apply insight learned from evaluations to future program development
  • Maintain contact lists for external partners, including speakers, educators, local pilots and pilot associations, and aviation-related organizations
  • Develop new partnerships and outreach opportunities with organizational stakeholders and the Colorado aviation community at large
  • Develop, create, and distribute comprehensive educational information as necessary
  • Collaborate with Marketing department to promote events and identify ticket sales strategies and advertising opportunities
  • Inform and monitor program inventories and budgets to ensure they are meeting targeted benchmarks
  • Attend and support Museum special events as needed – including evening and weekend events

Working Conditions
Exploration of Flight is located at a busy regional airport. The Air & Space Museum operates in an 80-year-old aircraft hangar. Environmental conditions may vary.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree or significant relevant experience in Early Childhood Education, History or Science Education, or Museum Studies
  • 3 ~ 5 years of experience in education, Museum education, event planning, or related fields
  • Interest in the science and history of aerospace is highly preferred
  • Prior experience working with volunteers, non-profits, in public administration, etc.
  • Able to coordinate, schedule, and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office 365 suite, Google Workspace, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, time management, and multi-tasking abilities
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate in team settings
  • Reliable and ethical with a positive disposition
  • Able to communicate professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and wide range of individuals, communities, and organizations
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and outcome-oriented problem solver with fresh and innovative ideas
