POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is primarily responsible for the day-to-day accounting of the Denver Art Museum’s cash management functions and the Denver Art Museum Foundation activity. This includes initiating banking transfers, the recording of transactions in the accounting system, reconciliation of bank, credit card and stock account activity, preparing required documentation for purchasing and selling of investments, and preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports. This position is also responsible for month end and year end processes including compiling information in support of the annual audit and tax returns. The position requires adherence to internal control procedures in order to safeguard Museum assets.

This position reports to the: Controller

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recurring Cash and Investment Duties:
    • Prepares daily reporting on cash balances.
    • Records daily cash and credit card activity.
    • Researches and resolves bank discrepancies.
    • Researches credit card chargebacks.
    • Reviews the Museum’s stock account for new contributions and records them.
    • Prepares and initiates Museum and Foundation investment transfers as needed.
    • Prepares the documents for changes in investments.
  • Monthly Accounting Responsibilities:
    • Completes bank reconciliations for the Museum and Foundation.
    • Completes credit card reconciliations.
    • Completes investment reconciliations for the Museum and Foundation.
    • Completes activity recording and reconciliation for the Museum’s Entities: DAM Garage, DAM Holdings, and DAMF Realty.
    • Completes billings for utilities and landscaping.
    • Completes monthly Museum credit card spend upload and reporting.
    • Completes reconciliation of gift annuitants.
    • Completes quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, as assigned.
  • Reporting:
    • Prepares monthly banking fee analysis report.
    • Prepares monthly credit card fee analysis report.
    • Prepares monthly investment performance reports for the Foundation and its investment advisors.
    • Prepares quarterly Foundation investment performance allocations to endowment funds.
    • Prepares quarterly investment performance reports for other Foundations.
    • Prepares schedules and information for the Foundation board meetings.
  • Other Critical Duties:
    • Assists in preparing necessary schedules and information for the annual audit for the Museum and the Foundation.
    • Assists in preparing necessary schedules and information for the annual tax return for the Museum and the Foundation.
    • Assists with cashflow projections, as needed.
  • Other:
    • Serves as backup to other critical duties within the Accounting Department as assigned.
    • Develops and documents current processes and procedures for the Foundation’s accounting.
    • Responsible for training designated personnel to serve as the backup to this position.
    • Other projects and duties as assigned.
    • Consistent usage of the Racial Equity Lens in day-to-day operations.
    • Yearly goal setting to support Racial Equity Roadmap initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Skills, etc.):

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 4 years professional experience working in accounting or finance.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects with strong follow through skills.
  • Ability to complete projects timely and accurately.
  • Logical analysis skills that require thinking through and solving problems step by step, often looking beyond the obvious solution to a problem and digging deeper for the best solution.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to look at financial and other data and be able to explain trends and fluctuations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Extensive Excel experience.
  • Ability to function in a team environment and interact with other departments within the Museum.

Preferred:

  • Working understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Working understanding of not-for-profit accounting.
  • Experience working with treasury and investments.

Position type: This position will be covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU.

Pay: The hiring pay range for the position is $55,700 – $74,200/year based on experience.
