Tweens and teens with a gift for storytelling and the passion to learn film making meet each summer in Aurora.
Each summer, Downtown Aurora Visual Art’s Job Training in the Arts & Technology students take part in a full immersion film program at the Colorado Film School. The long-term partnership offers tweens and teens access to a fully-equipped film school where they learn about careers in the film industry and gain a wealth of creative skills using top-of-the-line computers and software.
Students gain professional skills in writing scripts, acting, directing, lighting and operating the latest film equipment. They also have opportunities to interact with filmmakers, faculty and college students from the Colorado Film School. The resulting short films are screened in DAVA’s new media lab, with hundreds of parents and community members listening to students share important personal experiences and messages on screen. These powerful stories earned 9 Colorado Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards in 2018.
